01
Built for the people on site
Mobile Wash is a French mobile car wash company. Its technicians need to carry the day's work with them: where to go, which vehicles to service, and what needs to be recorded before a job is complete.
This private iOS application brings that workflow onto the iPhone. It is built for authorized internal staff, with access to assigned interventions, customer vehicle details, service evidence and work orders.
The companion Car Wash Mobile web platform covers the wider scheduling and client workflow. This project focuses on technicians in the field and the process of deploying their iOS app privately.
My scope
- Technician workflows and vehicle service records
- Camera, photo-library access and registration capture
- App Review iterations and privacy permission changes
- Apple organization setup, private distribution and staff deployment
02
From assignment to completion

Assigned interventions
Customer, site, schedule and service notes stay together in the work order.

Evidence per vehicle
Registration details and service photos connect the work to the right vehicle.

Ready to complete
Technicians review vehicle records, save their progress and close out the intervention.
Live demo
Try it yourself
Browser demo with fictional jobs and local-only edits. Native iOS plate recognition is simulated here; the registration parser is real. This demo is separate from the privately distributed production app.

03
Vehicle identity and service evidence
Each vehicle needs a reliable record. Technicians can enter its registration, capture service photos and attach evidence to the intervention directly from their phone.
The native app uses on-device text recognition to read registration plates. A dedicated parser handles French plate formats and common letter-digit confusions, with a confirmation step when recognition is less certain.
The browser demo keeps the same parser but uses simulated recognition frames because the native OCR engine does not run on the web.
In the field
- View assigned jobs and the customer site's service instructions
- Capture registration details and photos for each vehicle
- Save work in progress and complete the work order

04
Getting the permission flow right
Apple's review raised questions about the camera and photo-library permission experience. Resolving those concerns meant revisiting the steps technicians saw before the system prompt.
I changed the preliminary wording to neutral language such as Continue, removed unnecessary pre-permission cancellation behavior, and kept the official iOS prompt as the final user-controlled authorization step.
These changes were part of several review iterations before approval. The aim was to make the reason for access clear while preserving the technician's control over camera and photo-library permissions.
05
A private app needed private distribution
Apple initially flagged the public App Store submission because the app served an internal workforce. I restructured the release as a Custom App through Apple Business Manager, making it available to the Mobile Wash organization.
The deployment work extended beyond shipping a build: company verification, managed licenses, technician accounts and device setup all needed to be in place.
- Verify the organization. Set up the Apple Developer Organization account, obtain and validate the D-U-N-S number, and provide official French Kbis documents.
- Configure private distribution. Set up Apple Business Manager and the Custom App release for the authorized organization.
- Work through App Review. Address the distribution and privacy feedback, revise the app and complete the review iterations.
- Prepare the technicians. Purchase managed app licenses, create Managed Apple Accounts and configure device management blueprints for deployment.
06
Approved and in the company's control
After multiple review iterations, Apple approved the app for private availability to Mobile Wash. The result is a company-controlled iOS application for its technicians, with managed access, centralized deployment and an update path through Apple Business Manager and App Store Connect.
- Application
- React Native, Expo, TypeScript and Expo Router
- Device capabilities
- Camera, photo library and on-device plate recognition
- Delivery
- Private Custom App, managed licenses and technician deployment
